  1. 1.If the station needs a wide audience why target just the 25-45 age group?

Firstly, it’s worthwhile explaining a little background information into how stations choose target audience age. Choosing an age group for an audience is a vital decision. Choose too narrow an group and you will only reach a limited audience. However, choosing too wide an audience often results in programming that is inconsistent and difficult to listen to.

Bearing this in mind, mainstream adult radio stations tend to focus on one of three audiences:-  Young Adults (Under 25) Adults (25-45) and Mature Adults (45+). This is because listeners within each of those grouping tend to have more in common with each other. Thus, targeting one of these age ranges makes it easier to produce a consistent programme output.

Having said, this is not an exact science. Stations will always pick up listeners just outside the age range. However, this is much harder to do with the younger and older age brackets hence the reason for our choice.
